Thought for the Day:
“A lot of “woke” people have this superiority complex and it’s so ironic… you freed your mind only to become a slave to your own ego.”
Question for the Day:
Are you too “woke” to vote responsibly in November?
I’m not about to talk y’all to death today, so I’ll just offer a quick Public Service Announcement to all my “woke” sisters and brothers. I see you all commenting on social media. You’re taking your little jabs in the comment sections of posts celebrating Joe Biden’s decision to choose Kamala Harris as his running mate. Clearly, some of you are not happy. You don’t like Trump, but you’re also “not sure” about Joe and Kamala and frankly, I get it. I took issue with some of Kamala’s choices when she was a prosecutor in California which I found insensitive and out of step with the special consideration a Black woman should have for high risk communities. And Joe Biden just flat out gives me the creeps, I’m sorry. I get that he was the “safe choice” but, in my opinion, there’s just nothing notable about him other than the things that kind of weird me out. Yet, despite the fact that I may not be either or their number one fans, I’m also not a fool.
You would be hard pressed to find a politician that doesn’t regret some of the choices he/she has made along the way (unless you’re Donald Trump, of course). Though Joe once took a pretty scary stance on issues of criminal justice, even referring to a largely minority prison population as “predators too sociopathic to rehabilitate,” I guess spending eight years understudying Barack Obama enlightened him, as he now appears to be a changed man. Kamala has since stated that if she had the opportunity to do some things over, she would. Plus, I will always respect the fact that at the end of the day, she is a woman of color who is breaking down barriers and excelling in spaces not created with the expectation of our inclusion. AND, it doesn’t hurt at all that she’s a fellow Bison and graduated from Howard University, my beloved alma mater. Despite her missteps, she does represent Black excellence and we must never forget to acknowledge the undeniably positive aspects of her life and career. Not recognizing her successes would make us no better than the bigots who consistently disregard all that is positive about our people. And the fact that she is light skinned and has a white husband is a big fat “AND???????” for me, ijs.
If we’re keeping it one hundred, on their worst days, Kamala and Joe are still not as bad as an openly racist imbecile who avoids the truth like it’s a mask in the middle of a pandemic. I’ve written enough about Donald Trump so I won’t waste anymore energy or keystrokes (today) trying to explain to folks why he’s not presidential. Plus, I’m sure you’ll be hearing plenty more from me as November approaches. God Don’t Like Ugly: Trump and the Christian Vote You’re the Trump Card, Now Play It!
However, what I will do is call out all of you fake “woke” folks who are so busy picking apart the Democratic candidates that you are blinded to all the obvious reasons why voting for them is the only real option we have if we want Trump out. A third party vote, or God forbid a vote for Kanye, is a wasted ballot that will only increase Trump’s chances of winning. If November 2016 taught me anything, it was that there are a lot of people in this country who do not care about Black people. Ironically, Kanye may fall into this category even after he accused George Bush of the same. Yeezy for President?
I really don’t put it past folks to stand with people of color on issues of inequality and injustice on Instagram and Twitter and then secretly take their real opinion of us to the polls. I also never anticipated that there would be that many Americans who would elect a reality television star with no prior experience to the highest office of the land just on the strength of being rich and white. I falsely assumed back then that there couldn’t possibly be that many gullible and closeted racists in this country but alas, I was sadly mistaken.
This is why we cannot afford to waste a SINGLE solitary vote! We need all hands on deck! We need to stop playing Hotep semantics, and acting as if withholding our vote is somehow giving “power to the people” when it actually might destroy the very people “woke” folks claim to ride for. So, if you’re somewhere keyboard thuggin’ on social media and shaming other Black people for being “sheep” because we refuse to allow our egos to overshadow our common sense, please have several seats. Matter of fact, just go to bed because you’re clearly tired and need to give the foolishness a rest.

“…you freed your mind only to become a slave to your own ego.” LOL! I love this! I agree. I’m not a huge fan of Kamala, but I will still vote for her and Joe Biden, and will give the respect and support she deserves as an African American VP candidate and fellow HU grad and attorney.
Glad you feel me!! And thank you for reading. 💙
